ROYAL VELVET put her best foot forward on a very hot Newmarket July Cup Day to win the 7f Fillies’ Class 2 Handicap under in form jockey William Buick. The pair jumped well from stall 1 and William settled the 4yo daughter of Lightning Spear nicely behind the pace. She made headway from 1f out and was pushed to the line to win comfortably by one length.

ROYAL VELVET has been a great servant for her owner and breeder Mrs Susie Hartley. The plan is to now try and get some well deserved black type for her.
