FAIRY FLIGHT’S victory at Lingfield on Friday ensured that trainer William Knight equalled last year’s tally of 23 winners.

The daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus opened her account on only her second career start, bagging the first division of the 1m fillies’ maiden.

Fifth on debut at Wolverhampton a fortnight earlier, that experience clearly brought her on and she was all set from the start on her swift reappearance.

Jockey Jim Crowley popped her out of the stalls and she soon led before allowing Leaving Alone to take up the running with three quarters of a mile to go.

Fairy Flight remained close up and she responded well when Crowley launched her off the top bend into the home straight.

The two market principals Leaving Alone and Elvira Madigan were bang there as well entering the final furlong but Fairy Flight emerged victorious, knuckling down to score by half a length at odds of 14/1.
